The best Duck..Roasting Duck in PERTH

is quite difficult to review some chinese restaurant in perth. It seems people do the restaurant bussiness for only residential requirement.. therefore i will discuss about "roast duck restaurant" in this year, 2007.
There are some chinese restaurant in perth, which had been there and famous with the roast duck dishes.
From people opinion and and research from the duck supplier, i got several restaurant which are contentable in my review.
1. The Good Fortune Roast duck house, City of Perth, William st.
2. The Chin Noodle house, Leeming shop centre, Melville
3. The Four Seasons roasting duck rest., Northbridge, William St.
4. The Good One, Victoria Park
5. The Silk Road restaurant, Applecross ~ I won't review deeply on this point coz i'm working at this restaurant.. :)

Ok..
first ~ The good fortune

This restaurant is quite old restaurant, one of the famous duck restaurant. It used to be the best in perth. My visit was on sunday morning, because they don't sell any dim sum, makes this restaurant not in busy hour in lunch time.
Believe it or not, the standard is down.. the noodle, duck and the sauce was edible but it was not tasty, noodle overcook, presentation minus ( i got the chopped duck all over the plate, it didnt arrange neatly on the plate), and sauce - nothing special ( simple chicken stock and fat dripping from roasting)

place ~ old chinese fashion
price ~ $ 8 something
patron ~ good, all patron using uniform and the chefs wore hat.
food ~ nothing special
service ~ it's good, coz the waitress were able to speak english fluently.

total review ~ 3 stars

second.. The Chin Noodle house

My visit on weekday lunch time, I got the info that the hongkong celebrity chef whom i know he was a best duck roaster working in it. The food was good, but the service and place... was not cozy. It was busy for them, we ordered spring water, but we did receive chinese tea..quite funny though.. after we got the food we dont get any cutlery, so we wait for 8 minutes until i took for myself spoon and chopsticks....
The presentation was nice, everything arrange neatly on the plate..the duck was cut nicely, but the sauce was edible but i got it less tasty..the noodle was perfect al-dente.

Place ~ chinese style old fashion
Patron ~ all using the same uniform
Price ~ we have the lunch special for $8 something
Service ~ the service wasn't good
Food ~ Good, only the sauce less tasty

total ~ 3.5 stars

third.. The Four seasons

I had been told from our duck supplier that this restaurant were selling a lot of duck, so my first conclusion is they are doing very well on selling the duck..
My visit on weekday lunch, they have a dimsum on that time so we ate a prawn and scallop dumpling, pork and chives dumpling and steamed pork buns as entree. The dumpling was good, but not the bun(char xiu bau). After that we order 2 type dishes of duck, teow chew soya duck and roast duck noodle.
The service was very bad, they can't speak english fluently..the worst, they keep asking in chinese.. The person who in charge in counter, maybe part of owner or manager.. he doesnt smile at all to customer..maybe that day was very hard for him... Not a single or simple greeting form the patrons..
The food was good or nearly perfect, sauce was good and tasty, the chopped duck were arrange neatly on the plate, The duck were tender, but the noodle was a bit overcook..nice..nearly perfect

Price ~ A$12 for the duck noodle
Patrons ~ they all using the same uniform, but the i got the roaster who send my duck to my table.
Place ~ new place, but the arrangement old style chinese restaurant
Food ~ NICE, very good, only the pork buns and noodle were make it slopped down.
Service ~ Geez ...MINUS...

Total ~ 3.5 stars

The Fourth.. The Good One

I got few conversation with ladies and man around my life area(school, work, and house) they recogn that the good one serve best duck..
My visit on sunday lunch time, they open on 10 30 am. so we were the first customer. I were expect the fresh roast duck. BUT i got the chewy duck, horrible sauce... lack of service, worst place to go...

Place ~ Old fashion chinese restaurant
Price ~ $ 8 something
Patron ~ they using same uniform, and the chef wore the uniform and hat
Food ~ edible but it was not delicous..
Service ~ minus...

total ~ 2.5 stars

fifth.. The silk road restaurant

I wont review this restaurant coz i'm working in this establishment...but the best part of duck noodle is the duck were serve boneless..and this restaurant is not a chinese restaurant...

So... i did some research ... the conlcusions and reviews were come from my point of view as a chef to give an info about dining in PERTH , Western Australia..

cheers...

The Djimbaran Bali Restaurant at Myaree, Perth

I made a plan to have a lunch with some friends, and on the last minute we decided get some Indonesia food...i tred to bring back my memory with all the indonesia dishes.

The place : Djimbaran Bali Rest.
40 Hulme Ct
Myaree , Leach Hwy,
Perth, Western Australia
ph. 08-93178288

The first impression from the outside is barely nothing, simple shop with glass door..

but The first step into the restaurant..wao Bali...yes it is... they decor the place to make it like beach bali evironment..

The wall looks like rocks and sands, traditional java music was played... nice...

Everything was INDO...even the waitress ...

The reviews:

Place ~ nice, clean, cozy, balinese decoration
Price ~ reasonable, less than $25.
Patron ~ nice, the wait staff are kind and polite
Food ~ bring back all the memories with the Indonesia taste, nice presented, taste perfect.
Service ~ preety lack, maybe because it was a lunch time so only to wait staff around.

We had:

1. Cumi Goreng Chitos ( Chitos Fried Squid) ~ $14.50

2. Tahu Gecrok (fried tofu with shallot sweet sauce) ~ $4.95

3. Rujak Penganten (Wedding salad) ~ $ 6.95

4. Ikan Goreng terbang (Flying fried fish) ~$14.95

5. Ayam Penyet (Chicken with hot and sour salsa) ~$6.95

6. Es Kelapa Muda (Young coconut drink) ~$2.50

7. Es Cendol (Cendol ice) ~$2.50

8. Steam rice ~ the best ..its serve on the wooden basket(its really indonesia's style)

I try to order grilled food, but they apologize for that cause the chef who incharge were in sick..

BiG bowl

I went to city last friday, to grab some idea from the chinese rest. and get some meat from wing hong. When i passed Northbridge area , i remembered that Ricky told me about Big Bowl rest in Northbridge, Perth city. Fortunetly thats rest. only a few shop different from WING HONG BUTCHER...

BiG bowl

Place ~~ Nice and clean
Waitress ~~ all chinese girls, using the same uniform and appron

Service ~~ Good

Price ~~ reasonable range from 8.80 - 12.80

Food ~~ Looks nice.only noodle..

Kitchen ~~ looks clean, and there are 2 big noddle maker machine near the counter

My experience...
I put my order where the counter is. Becoz that was my first time, i asked the lady on the counter (LC)for suggestion what dish i should order.

LC : "hi...how al you?, what u like to older"
D:"fine.. thanks, yeah its my first time in here.. which one u suggest to try?"
LC :"ooo..u like dly or soup?"
D :"dry please..."
LC :"oo dly we have stil fly and baked"

~waooo i dont even know that there is a baked noodle
D :"ooo u have the baked noodle? maybe i will go for that.which one is the most famous?"
LC :"baked one? this is the pok chop and onion the best one.."
D :"oo ok i order that..."
LC :"10.80 please, any dlink?"
D :"oo yeah i take the nestea..."
LC :"thank u..here is your number"

I wait for 15 minutes for the food, mean while i realise that i was the only one who eat the baked noodle...Geez..

on the wall they have the history of noodle in China...

ok ..this is what i got...

~inside....its creamy and sticky coz the cheese is melting.
My review... i give 3.5 star
taste of the food : creamy, sticky, ginger flavour on the pork chop, non spicy, smell: ginger, cheese and wheat from noodle, the noodle texture perfect, the freshness of the noodle can be smelt, similar with "Lor Mie~ malay/Indo" and baked pasta...maybe its kinda of fussion east and west..but obviously not for me..

Margaret River...The Berry Farm

Our trip was fascinating..even only a few days.. On the minute we arrive at Margaret River, we try to find a place to eat. We all feel tired coz we start our journey from 4 am and arrive at 8.30 morning.

So after we arrived at cottage and unpacked everything..we decided to have a lunch at Berry Farm..(local people said they have a nice lunch)

We spend 20 minutes driving to Berry Farm, and its a nice place...alfresco, listen to bird singing, our table were in the garden with canopy on the top..

the lunch is quite simple but its nice... but only two dishes we took the picture..(thats because thats the first food came out, and after the others come, we dont a time to take a picture or discuss about it...)

the review:

Place ~ Natural

Price ~ less than $20

Food ~ western basic with mashed potato and salad, the salad dressing was nice

Patron ~ nice person

Service ~ a little bit slow, maybe the lack of people who worked.

a bit weird...beef in baquet

This more better! Chicken and mushroom in filo wrapped
